The QARC consists of a small but dedicated team of individuals who have acquired a great deal of experience over many years of working with the Cervical Screening programme at a national and local level. Liason with Specialist Advisory Groups, established over the past three years ensure a useful flow of information. These continue to grow and develop as new techniques and quality standards are introduced.
The importance of good communication cannot be under-estimated and the QARC aims to co-ordinate and support all branches of the service. Links are forged between the National Health Service Cervical Screening Programme (policy), the Department of Health (statistics), Health Authorities (information and coverage), Pathology Laboratories (interpretation) and Colposcopy units (treatment centres). Recently a national Primary Care group has also been established and a local specialist advisory group will follow soon. Currently the whole of the local programme is overseen by the NHS Executive at Region.
Local Cervical Screening Steering Groups are encouraged and supported by the QARC in offering advice and information. Most of their meetings are attended by the QA manager in order that they can be kept informed about any new issues and discuss any problems which may arise.
